A WikiGardener is someone who often spends time attending to the quality, flow, and overall polish of content on a wiki. A WikiGardener will rearrange sentences and paragraphs to improve flow and readability, clean up pages that have become disorganized, and sometimes split pages that have become jumbled and contain too much content into smaller, more focused pages. A WikiGardener is usually a well liked member of the community since s/he plays a role that is similar to a proofreader and editor in other environments.
A WikiGnome is someone who works behind the scenes, making numerous small edits that keep a wiki accurate and functioning smoothly. S/he will add or fix links, correct typos and misspellings, find citations for quotes, and gather consensus on whether to make larger changes to the structure of a wiki. WikiGnomes are very important to the success of a wiki because it's in their nature to do things that strengthen the community and set a precedent for productive collaboration. They are the opposite of WikiTrolls, who generally try to get a reaction from the community by posting strongly controversial content or doing disruptive things, like deleting someone else's edits. This rarely happens in environments where users are not anonymous and are associated with their edits.
